Ex-Lazio Midfielder Poli: “I’m Very Happy For Caicedo, He’s Doing Well”

Former Lazio midfielder Fabio Poli discussed the Biancocelesti’s current position, Ecuadorian striker Felipe Caicedo and the title race in an interview with Lazio’s official radio station earlier.

“Lazio will have an important set of games, I hope they are physically ready. When you are not in the habit of playing so much you always have small problems. In the league they are all within reach.”

He then spoke about the performances of the 32-year-old Caicedo, who has scored two late goals for the Roman side this season.

“I hope Immobile will come back well, even if there is Caicedo. I am very happy for him. Lately he’s been doing important things, very nice goals. In recent years he has made some mistakes, but this year he is doing very well.

“He has impressive personal strength, then he will also be motivated by the arrival of Muriqi. I’ve always liked him because he always helps and never creates issues.

“He always does his own thing and in today’s football where everyone allows someone to raise their voice, I would always like him.”

Finally, Poli spoke about the season so far and the title race.

“It’s too early now to understand who now can be decisive until the end. Everything remains unclear because of the situation we are living in. At this moment Juve seems to be stumbling, but I would always be careful of the Bianconeri. I would not even know who could take their place.

“At the same time, it is a good season because you can expect anything. Hopefully, normality will return, but I would like to keep this balance in the table.

“Atalanta are going through a difficult moment, but also last year had some problems at this point, then they started. This is a team that lives on collective organisation. Normal there is a moment of failure.”

Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio are currently 9th in the Serie A table after seven games, sitting on 11 points, three behind rivals Roma who are in 4th.

The Biancocelesti have won two of their last five games in the league, including a thrilling 4-3 comeback over Torino, as well as achieving two draws, including a key point against Juventus.

In Europe Lazio have fared even better, winning their opening game against Borussia Dortmund, before drawing against Club Brugge and Zenit St. Petersburg with a reduced squad.

Their next game is against newly promoted Crotone at the weekend.
