More Than 20% of Players in Serie A Have Tested Positive for COVID-19

From March 2020 to November 2020, more thanĀ 120 players from the Italian Serie A have tested positive for COVID-19.

As the top tier of Italian football includes around 600 players, it has been reported that more than 20% of the total number of athletes who play in the league have been infected with the virus in some way, shape, or form. This is, of course, is a very high and worrisome number.

As a result, Lega Serie A President Paolo Dal Pino says that the testing protocol will become even more strict in the weeks to come.

Today, we have decided to give a mandate to the Federation of Italian Sports Doctors to provide us with more strict self-regulation measures. These new regulation will be made within the FIGC protocol; I believe that we must coordinate our efforts.

COVID-19 has had a profound impact on Serie A. Numerous players are continuing to miss matches because of test results. Furthermore, the lack of spectators and merchandise sales has put clubs through tremendous hardship.
