Lazio have signed 16-year-old Italian Andrea Cannavaro, son of World Cup winner and Ballon d’Or holder Fabio Cannavaro, according to an official announcement by the Biancocelesti earlier today.
The report details how the teenager had been playing in China with Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao F.C, the club coached by his father in the Chinese Super League.
Cannavaro has decided to return to Italy for reasons including his studies, and so has signed with Lazio’s youth sector.
The 16-year-old Italian will be included in the Under 17 squad led by coach Marco Alboni.
The Campionato Nazionale Under 17 – A, where the Biancocelesti youth squad play, has currently been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the Roman side won one and drew two of their opening games last month, putting them third in the table, behind Parma and Bologna.
Last season, Lazio’s Under 17 squad finished 9th after 18 games, sitting on 20 points.
