Lazio Forward Joaquin Correa: “We’re a United Squad, We’re Friends on the Pitch”

Lazio forward Joaquin Correa discussed the Biancocelesti’s upcoming Champions League clash against Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg tomorrow in a press conference earlier today. His words were noted by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

First, he discussed if he has become a ‘true’ striker now.

In these years I have played more as an attacker or second striker than in the past. I am not a penalty area player, but I like to be close to the goal.

I feel better, I can still do it a lot. I work for this every day.

He touched on how exciting it was to train with Barcelona star Lionel Messi with the Argentinian national team in the recent international break.

A beautiful feeling, a dream of all Argentineans who’ve played football since childhood. Being there with him and the others is important, I am very happy.

Messi talks to everyone, he is very quiet and polite, but you learn especially watching him play, not with words. I try to improve myself in this way.

The 26-year-old Argentine forward then touched on his goals.

My first goal is tomorrow, I think from game to game. This has been my strength, thinking from day to day, if I do well things arrive accordingly.

Correa commented on the secret of Lazio’s squad.

We’re a united squad, the coach knows us very well, we work hard every day to play our game and be protagonists in the game. Our strength is this: we’re friends on the pitch.

He was not shocked to see the Biancocelesti reaching these levels.

It’s not a surprise for me to see Lazio at this level against strong teams, we are one too. We have experienced players, we are ready for everything, first of all to win tomorrow to continue on this path.

The Argentine forward was not affected by the recent controversies surrounding the Roman club.

No, since I’ve been here people are always talking about us, they say certain things. Our strength is our concentration on the field, that’s what Inzaghi is asking us, not to think about it and to do our job.

We are doing it well, if we continue in this way, we will be able to have our say.

Finally, Correa spoke about his time with Lazio and what he can do to improve.

The journey has been very nice, we had some difficult moments, but we won important cups. I learnt something every day.

There is always something to improve, that’s what I think and I do every training, the coach helps me a lot with the staff. I’m on the right road, I want to continue like this and the results will come.

Correa, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2024, has made 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 782 minutes.

In that time, he has scored two goals and provided two assists.
