Lazio midfielder Marco Parolo discussed the Biancocelesti’s vital 3-1 Champions League win over Zenit St. Petersburg earlier tonight in an interview with Italian broadcaster Canale 5 after the game.

Perfect evening, we won and we took a step towards the next round, we cared. Congratulations to the team, in victories like this, it’s the squad that makes the difference. We are growing, this is the mentality we must have.

We know the importance of what we are doing, there’s two fundamental games left and already from the next one we want to secure qualification which is a goal that we set ourselves.

The 35-year-old Italian midfielder, who is contracted to the Roman club until the end of the season, then touched on his goal in the game, a long-range effort to put the club 2-0 up.

It was a goal for me to reach the Champions League, I managed it and scoring goals was great. I dedicate it to my family. The beautiful thing is to be able to celebrate with everyone.

Parolo, who has been with the Biancocelesti since 2014, has made 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 403 minutes.

In that time, he has scored one goal and provided one assist.

Lazio’s win means that they now sit second in their Champions League group after four games, sitting on eight points, one behind group leaders Borussia Dortmund.

The Roman club can secure qualification to the next round of the competition by matching or bettering Club Brugge’s result against Zenit next week.
