Lazio sporting director Igli Tare discussed the Biancocelesti’s upcoming Champions League clash against Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg and team coordinator Angelo Peruzzi in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia before the game.
We want to be consistent, tonight is an important game.
A victory would be a good step towards the next round, we have been quite happy with the team’s path so far but we’ve focused particularly on this match against Zenit, which will be fundamental.
The Albanian executive then touched on if the team would look to invest in the squad in the upcoming January transfer window should they qualify for the next round of the competition.
I don’t think so, the problem mainly are the availabilities. This team has two players per role, even in defense we had to leave out two players due to the abundance.
We will be careful but at this time we think there is no need to strengthen, the market in January as I have always said is a repair market and I do not think it’s needed.
Finally, Tare spoke about the situation involving team coordinator Angelo Peruzzi, who had a falling out with president Claudio Lotito regarding the Luis Alberto social media rant.
I can’t be a mediator of a family relationship, there are things that happen everywhere and then they will come back.
He is fundamental for us, I have never seen what is happening as a problem. We are used to this, we look forward with serenity and concentration.
A win against Zenit tonight would put Lazio on eight points in their Champions League group, near the top with German side Borussia Dortmund.
The Biancocelesti have not lost a game in Europe so far this season, winning once against Dortmund and drawing against Club Brugge and Zenit.
Lazio’s next game in the league is against Udinese on Sunday.
