Maurizio Manzini, Lazio’s Team Manager, reaffirmed his love for the Biancocelesti today in an interview with Radiosei.
Manzini, who just recently turned 80 years old, talked about the significance of Lazio in his life. The manager has been with the football club for more than 58 years.
The Team Manager remembers fondly working with Tommaso Maestrelli, the coach who brought Lazio their first title win back in 1974. The Biancocelesti won the Scudetto for the 1973/74 season, two points ahead of favourites Juventus. The campaign is also memorable for including a corruption scandal that led to Hellas Verona being relegated.
Manzini ended the interview by recalling how he came to occupy the role of Team Manager at the club. He says that one day Giorgio Calleri, Lazio’s Vice-President at the time, simply recommended him for the job. He accepted even though this lost initially him some great career prospects; but 58 years later, he no longer regrets his decision.
