Lazio Coach Inzaghi: “Milinkovic-Savic Was Not Ready to Play Against Udinese”

Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi had to make a series of difficult squad choices on Sunday.

In spite of his team’s 3-1 defeat to Udinese, he refused to blame the team’s injury concerns or the absence of star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in his post-match press conference.

The Bianconeri inflicted a heavy and unexpected defeat on Lazio in Sunday’s game. At one point Inzaghi’s team was down by three goals before Ciro Immobile converted a penalty in the final stages of the game.

The team has been under severe pressure in recent weeks. The highly congested schedule and the high number of injury concerns have certainly not helped matters. Inzaghi, however, refuses to make any excuses and acknowledges that the team simply had a poor showing against opposition they should have defeated.

Lazio was able to reintroduce Thomas Strakosha to the line-up, following a lengthy absence. Stefan Radu was also back in the starting eleven. However, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could not start the match. In spite of the fact, that his absence left an undeniable mark on the game, Inzaghi says that the player was simply not ready and he wished to avoid risking injury.

Milinkovic was not able to play. We talked about it yesterday. I thought I would let him get a few minutes. But, I made other choices and we will see if he will be ready on Wednesday against Borussia Dortmund.
