Simone Inzaghi and Lazio have failed to find consistent form since the 2020/21 season started. In fact, this is the club’s worse start to a campaign since the former player became coach of the Biancocelesti.
The defeat against Udinese highlighted some of the Biancocelesti’s biggest issues in Serie A. Following a sub-par performance, Lazio lost 3-1, due to a series of defensive mistakes and uninspired attacking moves. As a result, Lazio finds themselves in 9th place, only having accumulated 14 points from their first nine domestic matches.
While the team has faced numerous setbacks in this start to the season, the position that they currently occupy in the league definitely disappointing. It is Lazio’s worst start to a campaign in the Inzaghi-era; it is also the worst start that the club has had in the last 11 seasons.
Below are the statistics related to the points that Lazio have managed to secure for the past five seasons in Serie A after Matchday 9.
- 2016/17: 15 points
- 2017/18: 22 points
- 2018/19: 18 points
- 2019/20: 15 points
- 2020/21: 14 points
Lazio finds themselves trailing leaders AC Milan by nine points. This is all the more disappointing considering that many considered Inzaghi’s team to be among the favourites to win the Scudetto this season.
