Lazio’s Eight-Match Undefeated Streak Brought to an End by Udinese

Lazio managed an impressive eight-match undefeated run, before losing 3-1 to Udinese on Sunday. Only in 9th place in Serie A after nine matches, Simone Inzaghi must seriously consider ways to improve the team’s Serie A showing.

Positive results against FC Zenit St. Petersburg in the UEFA Champions League, and Crotone in Serie A, must have surely made fans hopeful that the streak could continue a while longer. However, the surprising defeat to Udinese put an end to this run.

The aforementioned series of positive results is the fourth-best since Simone Inzaghi took over as coach of the Biancocelesti. Their best performances occurred during a period between January-April 2017 when they went 10 matches unbeaten. This is followed by two runs of nine matches undefeated, which occurred during September-November 2016 and September-November 2017.

Inzaghi’s performances at the helm of Lazio have been nearly universally praised. His tactics and the team’s results have caught the attention of many football fans; as a result, it is expected that Lazio will soon offer him a contract extension to continue to keep him in Rome.
