Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi discussed tomorrow’s vital Champions League clash against German side Borussia Dortmund in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.
His words were collected by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.
We know that we are close to an excellent goal, but we are still missing something, there are two games to play, tomorrow we have a very important match against one, in my opinion, of the best teams in Europe with excellent potential.
The Italian coach discussed the first leg against the Bundesliga outfit and Sunday’s loss to Udinese.
The first leg we won, starting off on the right foot this campaign, there is still a little missing for the guaranteed qualification to the next round, but you’d enter among the top 16 in Europe, it would be a great goal for us.
On Sunday we were presumptuous, you can lose a game but not like that. We have analyzed it, we must reset as soon as possible and look ahead. We have worked for 4-5 years to qualify and we want to play this Champions League to the best of our strength.
He then touched on the duel between Italian striker Ciro Immobile and Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
He is always very consistent and not only with goals, but also for his performances and his contributions to the team. Then Haaland will also be a special watch, he is a great player, able to score in every match.
The Lazio coach also commented on the duel for a starting spot between Albanian shot-stopper Thomas Strakosha and Spanish veteran Pepe Reina.
It must not become a problem, I have training doubts like in all roles. This must continue to be an asset for us.
Finally, Inzaghi spoke about the death of club spokesman Arturo Diaconale, who sadly passed away this morning at the age of 75.
Very bad news, he was a great Lazio player with whom I have been lucky enough to work with in the last 4 years. He put a lot of dedication in his work, it’s a great loss, I join the pain of his family.
We met 4 months ago at a dinner organized by him, I thought things were going better but unfortunately life is unpredictable.
Lazio are currently second in their Champions League group after four games, sitting on eight points, one point behind group leaders Borussia Dortmund.
A win tomorrow against the German side guarantees qualification to the next round of the competition, a great achievement after a 13-year absence.
