Lazio defender Wesley Hoedt discussed this evening’s Champions League clash against German side Borussia Dortmund in an interview with Italian broadcaster Lazio Style Channel earlier today, before the game.

His words were noted by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

This evening can be special, we want it to be special for all of us. We are fresh from a burning defeat, but it can happen. Now it’s up to us to respond on the pitch. It will be a very difficult match, Borussia Dortmund are strong and so are we.

We must play as we know how, attacking and defending as a team. Only in this way we can play with everyone. In the locker room we talked about the approach, we saw that it is necessary not to miss, we must be humble and fight all together.

Lazio are currently second in their Champions League group after four games, sitting on eight points, one behind the German side.

The Biancocelesti beat the Bundesliga outfit in their first meeting back in October, and a win today would guarantee qualification to the next round of the competition.

In the league, Simone Inzaghi’s side are ninth in the table after nine games, with 14 points, three behind rivals Roma.

The 26-year-old Hoedt, who is currently on loan from Premier League side Southampton, has made nine appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 595 minutes.

In that time, he has helped the side keep one clean sheet.
