Lazio are interested in signing Hellas Verona midfielder Mattia Zaccagni as a replacement for Spanish midfielder Luis Alberto, according to a report from Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi earlier today.

The report details how the Biancocelesti have identified the 25-year-old Italian midfielder, who is contracted to the Gialloblu until 2022, as a strong replacement for the Spanish midfielder.

The two play the same role and have very similar qualities and the Roman side would only sign Zaccagni should Luis Alberto leave the club.

Verona value the 25-year-old at around €20 million, roughly the same valuation that was placed on defender Marash Kumbulla. Players could be included in exchange to lower the overall cost.

A deal does not seem likely in January considering the long and complex negotiations that would be required, even if sporting director Igli Tare would like to speed things up.

Verona are willing to discuss it and coach Ivan Juric has a soft spot for Ecuadorian striker Felipe Caicedo, finding him a good fit for his 3-4-2-1 system.
