Albania assistant coach Sergio Porrini discussed Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha and his fight with Spanish veteran Pepe Reina for the starting spot in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster TMW Radio earlier today.
Thomas had some difficulties from a physical point of view, he had Covid and it’s never easy then when you return and immediately start. I think it’s just a moment. Reina didn’t seem so phenomenal either, especially in the Champions League.
I hope that Strakosha can be number one again, for Lazio and for himself. He doesn’t have to get demoralized but just train as usual. The only worry is that when in the past I’ve seen competition in goal, in the end it never does anyone any good.
The goalkeeper’s role is particular and we need a lot of clarity on the roles.
The 25-year-old Strakosha, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2022, has made six appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 540 minutes. In that time, he’s conceded 12 goals and kept one clean sheet.
The Albanian shot stopper missed six games due to Covid-19 and has only featured once since returning, in the 3-1 loss to Udinese at the end of November.
