Lazio’s qualification to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 is quite an achievement to marvel at. The Italian side will be playing in the Champions League knockout stage for just the second time in the club’s history. More so, not many expected Lazio to advance to the knockout stage when the Champions League groups were drawn earlier this year, but the Italian side achieved the feat in the end.

Former Lazio defender Sebastiano Siviglia spoke about the feat in comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

This goal is the son of those who had foresight like Lotito, of those who have built the team piece by piece like Tare, and of someone who has been in Rome since he was twenty, like Inzaghi. To be among the top 16 in Europe is extraordinary.

Siviglia credited Lazio sporting director Igli Tare for helping to construct this formidable side.

I think he surprised everyone.  The results of his work can be seen. He manages to give a sense of belonging. I want to give him great credit for having reached this level. He has been working well for years, and has managed to decentralize power over Simone Inzaghi from a technical point of view, trying to exploit the resources made available by Lotito.

Many former Lazio players can also come to an agreement on the work that Tare has done in building this team from the bottom up. Lazio is currently enjoying what is among its best years in the club’s history.
