Lazio defender Luiz Felipe discussed the Biancocelesti’s qualification to the Round of 16 of the Champions League and their performances so far this campaign in an interview with Brazilian media outlet UOL earlier today.
Securing qualification to the next round makes me feel extremely happy. Last season we managed to bring Lazio back to the Champions League and now we’ve reached the Round of 16, something that hasn’t happened for years.
The 23-year-old Brazilian defender, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2022, then touched on how the squad want to do achieve even more this season.
Being able to represent the club in this way and help bring them back to the big tournaments in Europe is fantastic. We’re making history, but we want more.
We’re very confident in the strength of our squad and, in these first games, we’ve already shown that we’re able to play as equals against our opponents. We’ll continue to work to get even further.
Finally, Luiz Felipe spoke about the start of the seasons and his struggles with injury and Covid-19.
Having the opportunity to compete in the Champions League for the first time in my career is special. Unfortunately, I missed a few games at the start of the season, first because of injury and then because of Coronavirus, but now I’m well, fully recovered and in good shape.
I tried to make the most of every minute on the pitch and give my best to the team to help achieve the win.
The 23-year-old Luiz Felipe, who has been with the Roman side since 2016, has made seven appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 445 minutes. In that time, he has provided one assist.
