Lazio Manager Simone Inzaghi: “The Qualification is Deserved”

Lazio achieved a historic feat on Tuesday when it qualified for the UEFA Champions League knockout stage. The Italian side will be playing in the knockout stage for just the second time in club history.

Simone Inzaghi and his side achieved qualification following a 2-2 draw result against Club Brugge in the team’s final Champions League group stage fixture of the season. More so, Lazio finished Champions League play undefeated over the six fixtures. In post-game comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi, Inzaghi reflected on the historic achievement.

We are in the best 16 in Europe with full merit, without ever losing and therefore, tomorrow we will be even more lucid to analyze the progress made. The qualification is deserved. Tonight we had a great match, then we didn’t manage to score the third goal. The only regret was not celebrating with our fans because I imagine what the Olimpico could have been tonight.

Inzaghi now looks ahead to resuming Serie A play. The club still has a hill to climb as it currently stands outside the top four so far this season. The Italian manager touched on the approach to shifting gears and remaining keen to produce quality showings in league play.

Now we have to put everything we have in Serie A. We know that we have a good position for all the problems we have had and we know that we will have an important match against Verona on Saturday. We will have to try to find energy and strength. I assure you that it was not an easy journey.

Lazio now awaits the upcoming Champions League Round of 16 draw.
