Lazio Conceding Goals at a Rate Not Seen Since the 1992/93 Season

Despite experiencing success in the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League, Lazio’s Serie A campaign sees the Biancocelesti struggle as they cannot produce the same result. One of the reasons for this rough stretch for Lazio is their defending.

Lazio is in the top ten for goals conceded with 19, and they’re in striking distancing of Cagliari Calcio, who is in fourth place with 23 goals conceded. Furthermore, Lazio is averaging 1.73 goals conceded per match, according to Footy Stats.

Surrounding this amount of goals is unusual for Lazio as Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo NoiLe Aquile has not conceded this many goals since the 1992-93 season.

To put this rough stretch of goals conceded, last season Lazio finished in the top two for goals given up with 42 and averaging 1.11 goals conceded per match.

Suppose the Biancocelesti hopes to get back into the top four discussions for Serie A. In that case, they’ll need to fix their defense either with additions this January window or by providing different defensive tactics.
