“We Scored Two Goals Ourselves” – Inzaghi on What Went Wrong as Lazio Falls to Verona

Finding themselves in eighth place in the Serie A table, Lazio needs to pick up points to keep pace with the clubs fighting for the UEFA Champions League spots.

An opponent like Hellas Verona was the perfect squad to begin turning their 2020/21 Serie A season around, heading into the midway point; especially as they were carrying the momentum of qualifying for the Champions League Round of 16 midweek.

While the Biancocelesti had some confidence leading up to the match, after 90 minutes, it seems as if there are some worrying signs in their league play, as they continue to drop points instead of starting to climb the table.

After the match, Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi spoke to the media where La Lazio Siamo Noi relayed his press conference comments.

One of the first questions that Inzaghi answered is the two mistakes that resulted in Verona’s goals.

Certain episodes are decisive in a football match. After the draw against Club Brugge in the Champions League, we had to be more concentrated and lucid.

However, Verona defended well and capitalized on our errors; this is football.

Two days ago, we were rejoicing, and now we are commenting on a defeat.

Next, he answered a question about Lazio only having one home win this season.

Before the lockdown with our fans, a certain synergy had been created. We had another gear to elevate our game. However, it is true, we must try to do better at home.

We knew that Verona would cause us problems. We created and wasted a lot of chances; we scored two goals ourselves.

Finally, Inzaghi discussed how Lazio will try and overcome this rough stretch as they try and stay in the race for the Champions League spots for next season.

We have to have a good performance against Benevento, who are a tough team that is doing very well. Today we did not deserve defeat. But there is little time to dwell on this result.
