Lazio will face one of the biggest challenges in the Simone Inzaghi era as the club will take on FC Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Lazio is slated to be the clear underdogs against Bayern as the Bundesliga side is not only the defending Champions League winners but also finished group stage play undefeated over the six contests.

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare is pleased that his side drew Bayern for the Champions League Round of 16. He anticipates that his side will be the underdogs heading into the tie but believes that it can pull off an upset. Tare spoke about the draw in comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

It couldn’t have been better than this. Seriously, let’s play against the team that won the last [Champions League]. We proved it twice with Borussia Dortmund, we will try to face this match with great enthusiasm because we deserved it. We start as underdogs, but we can believe in it and make a surprise.

As mentioned, this will be a grand test for Inzaghi but one that he will need to prepare heavily for in order to give the team a chance in the tie.

  1. Yes, they proved against Dortmund that they are a good team, but Dortmund is not Bayern Munich. I think it will be extremely hard for Lazio to survive the next round. My guess is two victorys for Bayern, but you can never know.
