FC Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 duel against Lazio will a refresher for the German side. The Bundesliga side has a long history of going up against Italian teams in the Champions League competition, but it has not faced such a side since the 2015/2016 edition of the competition when it eliminated Juventus in the Round of 16.
Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is much anticipating this upcoming duel against Lazio. The Italian side did finish undefeated in two fixtures against Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage, which surely must have caught the attention of Bayern’s players and coaching staff. Salihamidzic provided his early thoughts on Lazio in comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.
Lazio are an uncomfortable opponent, you saw them in the group against Borussia Dortmund. It is always difficult to play against Italian teams.
Bayern Munich has not faced an Italian side in any competition under manager Hansi Flick. So for the German manager, this is slated to be a key test against a Lazio side that could be a dark-horse contender in the tournament.
