Lazio May Look to Sign Barcelona’s Umtiti in January but Denis Vavro Must Leave First

Lazio may look to sign Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti to help shore up the backline, but it depends on the departure of defender Denis Vavro, according to a report from Italian newspaper il Messaggero earlier today, as reported by LazioNews24.

The report details how a meeting has been scheduled between president Claudio Lotito, sporting director Igli Tare and coach Simone Inzaghi just before the Christmas holidays.

The trio will discuss the transfer market, which players should be placed on the transfer list and any possible new arrivals.

Inzaghi will push for a defender to add an experienced player into the defence that has seemed in perennial difficulty since the start of the season, with Umtiti being an option.

The Frenchman’s arrival is linked to the departure of Slovakian defender Denis Vavro, who is likely to leave on loan in January.

If captain Senad Lulic’s recovery is further lengthened then a new left wing-back may also be discussed, the report highlights.
