Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi has won the ASI Nazionale Athlete of the Year award, according to a report from Italian news agency Adnkronos earlier today.

The report details how the 32-year-old Italian defender, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2023, won the award for his contributions to the ASI challenge (push-ups in time to music), which helped the Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo, helping to raise awareness and funds for the city.

The ASI Nazionale is the Italian Sports and Social Associations, formerly the Italian Sports Alliance, is one of the most important and representative sports promotion organizations in Italy, recognized by CONI since 1994.

Acerbi commented on his award, saying:

I thank the ASI for the award. I’ve been through difficult times in my life and I’m very sensitive to any charity initiative, I enjoy and need to help others, to visit children in hospital, for example, even if only to give them a smile.
