Former Lazio Goalkeeper Comments on the Position Battle Between Reina and Strakosha

Former Lazio goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri conducted an exclusive interview with gianlucadimarzio.com to discuss the Biancocelesti’s goalkeeping position.

One of the first topics that the media outlet dives into with Bizzarri is him crossing paths with a young Pepe Reina, who currently serves as Lazio’s starting goalkeeper.

We challenged each other many times, even in Italy, when he arrived in Naples. We have always had a good relationship. He is younger than me and has improved over the years, becoming a great goalkeeper.

Next, the former Lazio goalkeeper discussed who would take the reigns between the pipes for manager Simone Inzaghi. Although he didn’t go as far as siding with one player, Bizzarri believes that competition is good for Lazio.

I’m nobody to say it, and I don’t want to create controversy. They are two good goalkeepers, and Inzaghi will choose the best one: only he follows them and can know who is better off during the week. But competition can be good for Lazio.

Reina took over the position due to Thomas Strakosha testing positive for the coronavirus. With the Spanish veteran shot-stopper filling in admirably, the controversy over who the starter is has ensuing.

Since Strakosha has returned, the 25-year-old last started against Udinese Calcio a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, Reina has started the last five straight fixtures for Lazio.

It seems as though Inzaghi is going with Reina but has yet to commit to this decision publicly.
