Former Italian Midfielder Antonio Di Gennaro Discusses the Importance of Lazio’s Win Over Napoli

Lazio picked up a much-needed three points over Napoli on matchday 13 with a 2-0 home win.

The win was needed for the Biancocelesti as the club had come away with back-to-back winless results over its previous two contests, which dropped the side further away from a top-four standing in the league table. But with the win over Napoli, Lazio now sits at a mere three points behind fourth-place AS Roma.

Former Italian midfielder Antonio Di Gennaro watched Lazio’s showing against Napoli and knows just how important the win was for the side. More so, he believes that the win exemplified just how much Lazio trusts in manager Simone Inzaghi. Di Gennaro provided his thoughts on Lazio’s performance, with comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

Winning against Napoli definitely counts, then the hug with Luis Alberto is nice. It means that the team is still with him. I believe that Inzaghi doesn’t want to talk about it publicly, but I think he has done extraordinary things there. He made an important journey. He valued the players. He achieved success.

Inzaghi is set to be a free agent after his contract expires at the end of the ongoing season. But for Di Gennaro, he clearly backs Inzaghi and wants the Italian manager to prolong his stay with Lazio.

He needs to renew. We need to reflect on the summer market though.

Lazio now will take on AC Milan later this week before heading into the mini winter break.
