Lazio Sporting Director Tare: “We Signed Vedat Muriqi to Replace Felipe Caicedo”

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare discussed the upcoming January transfer window and the future of Ecuadorian striker Felipe Caicedo in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia yesterday, after the win over Napoli.

His words were collected by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

More than an occasion it’s a great opportunity to look for a win that can be very useful for the spirit of this team. This week we’ve talked a lot together with the coaching staff and we’ve analysed the mistakes we’ve made and we hope to get off on the right foot.

At this moment and now it’s important that the team gets back to winning and being what it was last year and in the Champions League games. That was something that was missing.

The Albanian executive then touched on the future of the 32-year-old Caicedo, who has been linked with a move away from the club in January.

I’m pleased with this question so I can clarify once and for all. At the end of last season Caicedo had an agreement with me and the president for an offer in Qatar, that’s why we signed Muriqi who was his replacement.

Then for some reason this proposal did not materialize, Caicedo stayed in Rome and we are very happy, he did not have any talks with me to go to Fiorentina. His permanence is not in question.

Caicedo, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2022, has made 16 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 582 minutes.

In that time, he has scored five goals.
