Lorenzo Insigne Blames Fatigue for Napoli’s Underperformance Against Lazio

Napoli came into its fixture against Lazio needing a win to maintain its top-four standing in the league table. But in the end, it was Simone Inzaghi’s side that prevailed with the win and the much-needed three points in the contest.

Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne was unavailable for the fixture due to a red card suspension. So, he had to watch as his side recorded 14 total shots but failed to find the back of the net. Insigne does not credit the absences as to why Napoli struggled in the fixture. Instead, he is placing the blame on fatigue, which he elaborated further in comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

There was certainly a bit of tiredness. When you face these strong teams every three days, it becomes difficult. I think it was more this than the technical-tactical one. I was with them in these days and they prepared the game in an excellent way, as we always do with Mr. Gattuso.

I repeat I think it was a physical aspect, facing first Inter and then Lazio three days later and moreover away from home. Seeing Lazio, it’s not like they did more than us. They had two chances and it was concrete, that’s all. I think that yesterday’s result was not the result of the absence of Insigne or Mertens . I think that if we had been with our heads yesterday, we would not have lost.

Napoli did play against Inter Milan four days earlier, which the side dropped points to by a 1-0 final score. But as with all clubs in the league, the congestion of games at this point in the season is bound to overwhelm teams.
