Lazio once again had a grand first half of the season challenge as it went up against the current league-leaders in AC Milan. While Lazio mounted a comeback from down 2-0, it was Milan who snatched the 3-2 win thanks to a late Theo Hernandez goal.
Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi was not relatively pleased with the result as he believes that his side was the better team in the fixture. Inzaghi points to his team’s inability to put away key goal-scoring chances as to why Lazio failed to pick up a dramatic comeback win. He spoke about the result, with comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.
This is football; it must serve as a lesson. We conceded goals from set pieces, but here at San Siro, we dominated. The result does not reflect the final score of the match.
We had many situations to take the lead. After we tied the match at 2-2, we had to pay attention. We were playing againt Milan who, not surprisingly, have not lost in a long time. Unfortunately, we lost. The boys have to take a lot from this match.
Inzaghi did not believe that his team deserved to come away with the fixture without any points. In the end, he credits mistakes as to why his side watched as Milan celebrated a victory.
We didn’t deserve to lose against Milan. We dominated for long stretches in the match, but we made mistakes that at this level, we cannot allow.
I told the boys it’s a shame, but this is football. You can’t make mistakes because against teams like Milan, it will backfire.
Lazio now heads into the mini winter break with 21 points through 14 fixtures, which not many expected to see out of the side at this point in the season.
