Lazio End 2020 With 9 Fewer Points in Serie A Compared to 2019

The first half of 2020 was kind to Lazio, as the Italian side finished in the top four which allowed them to return to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 13 years. However, balancing Europe’s top competition and Serie A fixtures have caused Lazio to have a bumpy end to 2020.

Lazio closes the 2020 portion of their 2020-21 season with a negative deficit to their point total. At this point last year, the Biancocelesti had acquired 30 points in the 2019-20 season. However, this campaign, they have taken a step back, as they have 9 fewer points (21 points) than when they closed out 2019, according to La Lazio Siamo Noi.

Lazio has balanced European competition and Serie A in the past. However, it’s been over a decade since they’ve had to balance the Champions League and their domestic fixtures, so it’s unchartered territory for the club.

Nonetheless, Lazio seems to be finding its form as they hope to see their way back into the top four race in Serie A and hope to put up a fight against FC Bayern Munich in their Champions League Round of 16 matchup.
