Lazio will be taking on FC Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 later this season. Many are already placing Bayern as the heavy favorites to knock out Lazio and advance to the Champions League quarterfinals, which the Bundesliga powerhouse has been regularly accustomed to doing so over the previous seasons.

However, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is not jumping on board by claiming that the reigning Champions League winners will ease on by the Biancocelesti. Instead, he is giving credit for Lazio’s Champions League group stage run this season, which included a pair of undefeated results against Bayern’s biggest rival.

Rummenigge spoke about Lazio and the tie in comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

I don’t like that they are being underestimated. They won against Borussia at the Olimpico and drew in Dortmund, against the team that has always finished second in the Bundesliga in recent years.

Bayern currently stands at first place in the Bundesliga and also finished Champions League group play undefeated over the six fixtures, which Lazio was also able to accomplish earlier this season.
