Lazio has not had it all go its way this season, especially in Serie A play.
It is currently a season filled with highs and lows, such as with the qualification to the UEFA Champions League knockout stage and its current eighth-place standing in the league table.
One could pinpoint Lazio’s hefty early-season schedule as a key reason for its inconsistency. Lazio had to take on six mid-week Champions League group stage fixtures over the first half of the season. But former Lazio winger Christian Manfredini is not among those placing all the blame for Lazio’s struggles on the club’s congestion of fixtures so far this season.
Manfredini spoke further about the Biancocelesti’s early-season run in comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.
Going to the bottom of the Champions League is impossible. I don’t think it can be the thought of this competition that slows Lazio down in the league. The project is going well, over the years they have planned. We cannot blame much despite some matches too many to lose this season.
Lazio will have a key fixture upcoming against Genoa. At this point in the season, it may seem ideal that Lazio begins to rack up a run of quality performances, especially with how close the current race to a top-four standing in league play is.
