Genoa willed its way to a 1-1 result against Lazio on matchday 15.
A Mattia Destro goal in the second half was all that the side needed to secure a draw in the end. While for Lazio, its Serie A struggles continued with another winless result against a bottom half of the league side.
Genoa manager Davide Ballardini is certainly well pleased that his side was able to capture a much-needed point from the fixture. Ballardini knew that his squad was facing a team capable of adding a barrage of goals in any given fixture. But still, Ballardini’s side kept its stout defensive gameplan that ended up leaving Lazio with only a mere goal scored.
The Genoa manager looked back on the result in post-game comments relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.
Genoa tried to win it, with its qualities and as a team, but a coach knows that when you play against a great team, this enthusiasm is fine.
We started a bit shyly, but then we grew a lot as the game went on. I became aware and we came out well. We played a great game against a great team. We care about the performance, which was a very good performance. In the second half, in the game, I think Genoa deserved it. Even Lazio has had his chances to take the lead, but Genoa has played a great game.
Lazio now looks ahead to a home fixture against Fiorentina where it will look to avoid recording three straight winless results in league play.
