Ex-Lazio Captain Wilson: “Francesco Acerbi Isn’t the Same as He Was Last Year”

Lazio legend Pino Wilson discussed the Biancocelesti’s current position after their 2-1 win over Fiorentina, the January transfer window and the usage of on loan Andreas Pereira in an interview with Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi earlier today.

What mattered was to bring home the three points, since on other occasions despite playing better they weren’t achieved. The team is recovering, I hope this is a turning point for the rest of the season.

It’s not easy to recover after losing points against teams not at our level, which made us slow down in the race for fourth place.

He looked ahead to Sunday’s match against Parma. The Gialloblu recently dismissed Fabio Liverani and re-hired Roberto D’Aversa.

Parma have changed coach and when this happens the players always have the motivation of wanting to show off, but if at this moment there is such a big difference in the standings between us and them there is a reason.

We have to get the three points, we can’t afford to lose any more. The Champions League has distracted us and now we’re struggling to get back into the league, but against Parma there can be no other solution than victory.

The 75-year-old Italian discussed this month’s transfer windows and the situation surrounding captain Senad Lulic.

Lulic gives a contribution that goes beyond the performance, for his competitiveness and belonging. But I think the 25 goals we’ve conceded so far are a lot. I welcome the return of Lulic, whose talents we know well, but it’s not just that department that needs to be reshuffled.

You can’t find good players in January, it’s difficult, but there will be a few who don’t escape the attention of the experts and I would make a sacrifice for the defense.

The management has been a bit complacent because we have a lot of players in the department in terms of numbers, the problem is that this year no one is fully convincing.

Acerbi isn’t the same man he was last year. I see a lack of concentration, otherwise a team fighting to get into the Champions League would never make certain mistakes.

Finally, Wilson spoke about the lack of playing time being given to Andreas Pereira and the player’s unhappiness at the situation.

The coach makes mistakes. The coach can’t put 20 players on the pitch and his choices are dictated by what he thinks is right, whether it’s wrong or not is another matter, but choices have to be made.

I understand Pereira and I think he’s an attacking player who wants to play, but he has to understand that these decisions have to be respected. The discontent cannot affect the general performance of the team.
