Lazio veteran Stefan Radu will make his 20th appearance in the Derby della Capitale against Roma this week on Friday, which will see him surpass legendary striker Silvio Piola’s total, according to a report from Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today.

The report details how the 34-year-old Romanian defender, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until the end of the season, has appeared in 19 derbies against the Giallorossi since his arrival in Rome in 2008.

An appearance against Paulo Fonseca’s side on Friday would see his total rise to 20, matching Paolo Negro and Aldo Puccinelli’s record.

The Lazio record holder is captain of the 1974 Scudetto winning side Giuseppe ‘Pino’ Wilson, who made 23 appearances in the derby in his career.

The 34-year-old Radu is also close to breaking the total Lazio appearance record, which is currently held by Giuseppe Favalli, who played 401 competitive games for the Roman club.
