Lazio recently announced the signing of AC Milan defender Mateo Musacchio. The Argentine talent joins Lazio having faced a difficult season so far with injuries and not having the opportunity to be a regular in Serie A fixtures.

Former Italian defender Massimo Piscedda notes that this signing was much needed for one key reason, which he detailed in speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The player is of international stature. Now we have to see how he is physically, if he is reliable. Lazio just needed a reinforcement in defense.

Piscedda watched as his former side lost to Atalanta in the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia tournament. The former Italian defender did note that Wesley Hoedt had one underwhelming performance in the match.

We knew he was not Beckenbauer. Yesterday he made two mistakes but was generally little helped by his teammates. He was just facing Muriel and Zapata. Now the blame all falls on him but when they lose in numerical superiority, it means that the whole department didn’t work.

It certainly will be interesting to see whether Simone Inzaghi plans to once again roll out Hoedt for the upcoming Serie A clash against Atalanta or if new signee Musacchio will make a starting appearance in the match.
