Former Lazio Defender Stendardo Analyzes the Penalty That Hoedt Committed in Coppa Italia Fixture Against Atalanta

Lazio defender Wesley Hoedt had arguably one of his more disappointing performances of his career so far with the Biancocelesti.

Hoedt had a difficult time containing Atalanta’s attack and even went on to commit a penalty in the second half as he fouled striker Duvan Zapata deep in Lazio’s penalty box.

As a former defender himself, Guglielmo Stendardo notes that this was more of a reckless challenge by Hoedt. Stendardo recognizes as well that such a challenge was also unnecessary at that point in the match.

The former Lazio defender Stendardo provide his thoughts on Hoedt’s foul, with comments being relayed by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

The defender there he has to stall.  Zapata had arrived on the line and could not do anything else.

It is a truly naive and useless foul . The defender has to accompany the opponent abroad. Hoedt had brought Zapata on the left. You must never go on intention.

Hoedt will surely have an opportunity to redeem himself when Lazio faces off against Atalanta once again in an upcoming Serie A fixture. Zapata may earn a start for Atalanta in this match, which could raise the stakes even more for Hoedt to provide for a redemption showing.
