Lazio’s Coppa Italia fixture against Atalanta was one filled with an array of missed opportunities.

For one, Atalanta defender Jose Luis Palomino committed a last man foul, which sent him off the pitch via a red card. Still, Lazio could not capitalize as Atalanta scored its third goal of the match minutes later and the Biancocelesti was not able to muster up a game-tying goal over the remainder of the match.

Former Italian defender Massimo Piscdda notes that this was Lazio’s golden opportunity to breakthrough in the match and potentially add a barrage of goals. Still, Lazio was unable to do just that.

Piscedda spoke (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) about this key sequence in the match.

There is bitterness for having thrown away an opportunity in numerical superiority, but Gasperini’s team defended itself very well. Lazio before the match could also plan an elimination but in any case in the championship.

Lazio now looks to a rematch with this Atalanta side in an upcoming key Serie A away fixture.
