Lazio defender Mateo Musacchio discussed his arrival at the Biancocelesti, his physical condition and Sunday’s match against Atalanta when speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference earlier today. His words were collected by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

First, he touched on what it means to join the Roman club.

A very important opportunity, I’m very happy to be here. Physically I feel good, I’ve come to this club with a lot of desire and hunger, really. It’s a great opportunity for me, I’m ready to give my best.

The 30-year-old Argentinian defender spoke about the rematch against Atalanta and the upcoming Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

We know, Atalanta are strong. I played against them a few days ago, but every game is different, we hope for a rematch on Sunday, we’re working to do our best and put in a good performance.

We know that in the Champions League there will be a very good challenge, against a great team. It’s not an impossible mission, we play 11 against 11, we can do it.

He discussed his reasons for joining Lazio.

When my agent called me and told me about the possibility of coming here, when a club like this wants you, you can’t say no. In two minutes, I spoke to my agent and he told me I could come here.

In two minutes, I spoke to my family and accepted. Lazio are a very strong team, obviously it’s a tough league, there are other strong teams. We can do something good, we think from game to game.

The former AC Milan defender spoke about how he feels in a three-man defense.

At AC Milan we played in a slightly different way. Here in Italy there’s a lot of talk about tactics, how you play, whether it’s a three or a four.

But with all due respect I’ve always thought that football is football, other things are really important, such as the attitude and desire to prepare for the game. I arrive here with a great desire to do well, to learn, to improve in all aspects. I’m ready for all this.

Finally, Musacchio spoke about the differences between AC Milan and Lazio.

I’m not the only one who can say this, Lazio are very strong, they have shown it in recent years. I know the history it has.

From the outside I have suffered. I’m happy to be here, all the guys have welcomed me really well, I’m coming to a great team, it’s a very important challenge for me. I’m really ready.
