Lazio was heading into the Serie A fixture against Atalanta BC with a chip on their shoulder. The Biancocelesti were eliminated in the Coppa Italia tournament midweek by La Dea; as a result, the squad wanted to get their revenge.
The excellent start came early for Lazio, as wing-back Adam Marušić gave Simone Inzaghi’s side the lead three minutes into the match after scoring a superb strike from outside the box.
According to OptaPaolo, Marušić’s strike (2 minutes and 6 seconds) to start the fixture against Atalanta was the fastest goal scored by a Lazio player since his goal against Genoa CFC, which he scored nearly a year ago (in February 2020).
2:06 – Adam Marusic' goal (2 min, 6 sec) is the fastest scored by Lazio in #SerieA since February 2020, again with Marusic, against Genoa. Flash.#AtalantaLazio
