Romano Floriani, Great-Grandson of Benito Mussolini, Joins Lazio’s Primavera Squad

Romano Floriani Mussolini, the great-grandson of former fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, has joined Lazio’s Primavera squad, according to a report from English news outlet The Guardian yesterday.

The report details how the 18-year-old Italian right back, who has been a part of the Biancocelesti youth system for a number of years, has now been promoted to the club’s Primavera squad, although he has not made an appearance so far.

He is the son of former Forza Italia parliamentarian Alessandra Mussolini, and has no interest in politics.

Academy manager Mauro Bianchessi spoke highly of the youngster, saying:

He’s a humble boy who’s never complained, not even when he didn’t play for two years. I like him. He’s not a seasoned player yet, but he looks promising.

His surname? I’ve never spoken to his parents, and the only thing that matters is whether a player deserves to play. Nothing else.
