Lazio are planning to extend Spanish veteran Pepe Reina’s contract for another year, according to a report from Italian newspaper Il Tempo (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today.

The report details how the 38-year-old Spanish goalkeeper’s current contract expires in 2022, but first contacts have already been made regarding an extension for another year.

Coach Simone Inzaghi was incredibly keen to acquire the former Napoli and Liverpool man and already that has paid off, with the Spaniard having the highest average number of successful passes, 419 out of 538 attempted.

Reina has also brought experience and leadership to the dressing room, with his strong personality further strengthening a tight-knit squad.

The 38-year-old Reina has made 20 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1800 minutes.

In that time, he has conceded 24 goals, kept four clean sheets and picked up two yellow cards.

His appearance against Cagliari on Sunday will be his 600th career appearance.
