Before Lazio’s clash against Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico, Serie A presented Sergej Milinković-Savić with the league’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ award for his performances in the month of January.

The Serbian took a photo with the trophy alone, before joining Lazio owner Claudio Lotito for one as well right before kick-off.

The midfielder international was a significant figure in January for the Biancocelesti. Lazio has won their last five fixtures and climbed back into the Serie A top-four race coming into this match, with Milinković-Savić proving to be a significant piece of Simone Inzaghi’s team.

The managing director of Serie A, Luigi De Siervo, explained the decision on why the league chose Milinković-Savić.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic confirms himself as one of the stars of Serie A. He is a complete footballer capable of making an impact in all phases of the game. In the last month, thanks to his technical, athletic and leadership skills, he has been the protagonist of top-level performances, providing a decisive contribution in the five consecutive victories obtained by Lazio.
