“I Saw a Solid Team” — Menichini on Early Takeaways from Lazio Primavera’s Performance Against SPAL Primavera

Lazio’s U19 side came away with a 0-0 draw result against SPAL U19. The result for Lazio U19 keeps the side at 15th place in the league standings.

Following the match, Lazio U19 coach Leonardo Menichini provided his thoughts (via Lazio’s official website) on the performance from the team. Menichini came away with some positive takeaways from the overall showing.

SPAL tried to put us in difficulty, taking advantage of the moment and our absences. I’m happy for the performance and for having closed the clean sheet. We had an excellent opportunity with Cerbara, as well as them on the counterattack, but I saw a solid team and reassured in morale.

I changed form to give more certainty; we need to grow, but today there was a lack of important players. I also tried to surprise the opponent tactically, who had prepared the match at 4-3-1-2, which we did not abandon.

The UEFA Youth League knockout stage for this season was officially scrapped due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. There is some disappointment from Menichini that his side will not be able to take part in the biggest club competition in youth football.

Unfortunately, it has been postponed, I’m sorry because it would have been a great growth opportunity for the kids but we have to take note of what is happening in the world.

Lazio U19 will now look ahead to an upcoming fixture against Atalanta U19.
