Lazio goalkeeper Pepe Reina waded into the world of politics with a Tweet directed at politician Pablo Echenique earlier this week.
The 38-year-old Spanish veteran, who is contracted to the Biancocelesti until 2022, responded to a Tweet posted by ‘United We Can’ politician Pablo Echenique, who said:
All my support for the young anti-fascists who are demanding justice and freedom of expression in the streets. Yesterday in Barcelona, today in Puerta del Sol.
The violent mutilation of a demonstrator’s eye must be investigated and responsibility must be clarified.
Reina, who has not been afraid to publicly state his support for far-right party Vox in the past, responded, saying:
You should show responsibility more often. Explain it tomorrow to the families whose businesses were ‘peacefully’ destroyed.
You have neither respect nor shame. You are the worst thing that happened to Spain in the last 40 years!
The 38-year-old is expected to start against Sampdoria tomorrow.
