Lazio got off to a rough start to their 2020-21 season, as they attempted to figure out how to balance competing in Europe’s top competition and their domestic competition.
It had been a 12-year absence from the UEFA Champions League, but after advancing to the knockout stages, Lazio finally got their Serie A season back on track.
Nonetheless, now with their tie against FC Bayern Munich on the horizon this week, Lazio is ready to take on the German giants in one of their more critical and exciting fixtures of their campaign.
Despite Lazio wanting to pull off the upset and do the unthinkable by eliminating Bayern, sporting director Igli Tare intends to keep the squad focused on Serie A as well.
In an interview with Sky Sport (via Corriere dello Sport), Tare doesn’t want this Champions League campaign to be a one-off, as he would like for Lazio to be back next season.
The first leg must be a lesson, but we must not think too much about this year’s Champions League; Serie A is fundamental for us.
Our primary objective is to play in the Champions League again next year because it is a competition that makes us grow in every aspect.
Lazio currently finds themselves tied for fourth place but loses the tiebreaker to Atalanta BC.
