Sampdoria wanted to come into the Stadio Olimpico and catch Lazio overlooking them as the Biancocelesti could’ve had one eye already on the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against FC Bayern Munich.

However, Lazio stayed focused on the task at hand this weekend and came away with all three points in their 1-0 win over UC Sampdoria. After the match, Blucerchiati manager Claudio Ranieri spoke to the media, where La Lazio Siamo Noi relayed his comments on Lazio’s win.

My initial idea was not to let Lazio play, to put my three forwards in a position to be able to exploit their game and their qualities. We did it at times, but not enough.

I’m sorry we never shot on goal, but the game was always lively. We tried in every way to equalize.

I leave the Olimpico with my head held high. We lost to an excellent Lazio.

It was not easy, we leave regretting the result. But this is a part of football.
