“We Have to Learn From This Defeat” — Lucas Leiva on Lazio’s Performance Against Bayern Munich

Lazio finished off with one of its worst defeats of the season as it lost to FC Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg fixture by a 4-1 score.

Lucas Leiva earned the start for Lazio in its midfield setup. Overall, the Brazilian talent recorded 34 passes completed, two ground duels won and one tackle recorded.

It was not the best performance from Lazio, but as Leiva noted in his post-game comments (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Biancocelesti must learn from the defeat.

It was difficult to beat Bayern. But we helped them with how we played. This is not the Lazio we know.

We have to learn from this defeat and experience.

Leiva also opened up about the approach that Lazio had coming into the fixture. The Biancocelesti did its homework and watched film on several key Bayern talents.

Before the match, we had analyzed players like Sane, Coman and Lewandowski. We knew they were staying high for the counterattack. We have made mistakes that we usually don’t make.

If you make mistakes at these levels, then it’s hard to win.

Lazio will now have to look ahead and aim for a dramatic comeback win in the return leg.
