Lazio put together a lackluster performance in its recent UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg fixture against FC Bayern Munich.
While Lazio came into the match as the heavy underdogs, the Biancocelesti still struggled to compete with the reigning Bundesliga champions, which was evident over the opening quarter of the fixture.
Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti notes (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) that Lazio’s concerning showing in the match did not come down to tactics or a game plan. Instead, Sconcerti sees that Bayern was simply the more dominant force on both ends of the pitch and had the edge when it came down to player personnel.
Lazio made obvious mistakes and there was a difference in quality.
It wasn’t a matter of tactics. There is a diversity of play that was evident in three different ways.
Lazio will have the return leg of the tie upcoming next month.
