Andreas Pereira is now slated to return to Manchester United following the conclusion of his current loan stint with Lazio, according to a report from the Italian-based outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness).
Pereira is currently on a season-long loan run with Lazio.
The Brazilian midfielder agreed to join the Italian side over the recent summer transfer window in hopes of earning more playing time. So far, this has not panned out for the current Lazio talent.
Pereira has totaled for one goal in 20 appearances in all competitions so far this season. He has primarily been relied on as a rotational player in Serie A and UEFA Champions League play.
As of late, Pereira has fallen out of favor with the team’s coaching staff. He has only played in a total of 41 minutes in Lazio’s last eight league fixtures. More recently, he remained on the bench during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg fixture against Bayern Munich.
For the moment, Lazio does not have any plans to trigger the purchase option in the loan agreement that would prolong Pereira’s stay at the club, per the report. More so, Lazio has been privately concerned with his inability to fit in with the team’s tactical setup.
Unless Pereira begins to turn the tide on his season, the midfield talent will depart from Lazio and return to the Premier League where a questionable future awaits his footballing career.
