“He Made a Mistake” – Former Lazio Defender Comments on Mateo Musacchio’s Performance Against Bayern Munich

This past week, Lazio endured a dreadful night in their 4-1 loss to FC Bayern Munich in the first leg of its UEFA Champions League matchup. The Biancocelesti were in an overmatch position as they try to dig themselves out of an early deficit.

Lazio defender Mateo Musacchio was one of the players whose costly mistake led to the Bavarian club’s goal and set the night’s tone. The 30-year-old’s untimely pass back to goalkeeper Pepe Reina resulted in Robert Lewandowski intercepting the pass leading to the fixture’s first goal.

A few days have gone by, and former Lazio defender Massimo Piscedda spoke with Radio Sei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) to discuss the aftermath. Furthermore, Piscedda had lukewarm encouraging words for Musacchio.

I wouldn’t cut Musacchio out, he made a mistake, but he can stay in the Italian league. I wouldn’t put him aside definitively.

The comments made by Piscedda suggest that Musacchio is a quality player for Serie A. However, against the top clubs in Europe for Champions League competition, perhaps he’s not someone that Lazio should go with into a match.

Any club that plays Bayern Munich understands that they need to play a near-perfect match and not beat themselves with mistakes that result in goals for the German giants.

In the end, it’s a learning lesson for Lazio, who wants to continue featuring in these Champions League matches.
